Initial Consultation - At your initial consultation, we will review your family law concerns and provide an overview of the issues and possible resolutions. An initial consultation is an opportunity for you to discuss the facts of your situation and share your concerns. As we discuss the facts and applicable legal principles involved, the process is greatly enhanced by some advance preparation on your part. Documents — Bring as many documents relevant to the issues as you can. Having these documents and orders readily available will enhance our ability to review your situation. · In divorce situations, gather as many of the pertinent property and debt documents as are obtainable, such as deeds and mortgages, bank and investment account statements, retirement statements, and credit and loan statements. · If your concerns involve modifying or enforcing court orders presently in effect, bring a complete copy of all prior court orders as well as any documents pertaining to those orders or that will permit a review of your legal issues. Examples are tax returns and pay checks supporting a child support modification or a payment record if a support arrearage is in issue. · Organize the full legal names, residence and work address and phone numbers of all persons involved, as well as dates of birth and social security and drivers license numbers. Lists — Make lists of your questions and concerns as well as the issues that you believe will be involved in your case. We will provide you with several information forms that will facilitate further gathering of information and evidence that will be necessary for effectively representing you. After reviewing the issues with you, we will discuss anticipated costs and fees as well as retainer. |
